A single drop of water on a leaf, a miniature world just visible inside it.

Survival runs on purpose.

Abishai Cherian Marketing Strategy & Global Operations

What lasts is rarely what grew fastest.

Purpose is what holds people together.

It is the backbone of what outlives you.

I build, market and manage purposeful businesses.

Growth is never just about getting bigger.

It is about building something strong enough to outgrow the person who started it.

About

I build businesses with purpose.

I am twenty. I have built three profitable businesses, come through a startup incubator, written software that holds up under real use, and designed AI systems that do actual work. I have led teams whose members had never lived in the same country, and advised organizations in five of them.

I mention that not as a list of credentials but because it taught me one thing early: a business is not a machine for producing revenue. It is an ecosystem. People, ideas, resources, technology, markets, purpose — all of it alive at once, all of it changing, none of it reducible to a spreadsheet.

What interests me is the part most people skip. Not the idea, and not the exit — the middle. The structure. The operating rhythm. The decisions that seem small and quietly determine whether a thing can survive its founder.

I want to build organizations that outgrow me. That means designing for the version of the company that exists after I stop being necessary to it, and being honest about what that requires: real systems, real people with real authority, and a reason to exist that survives contact with a hard quarter.

Purpose

The most interesting problems are never inside one discipline. They live in the overlap, where a market question is really an operations question wearing a different coat.

Leading across distance

Different places. Different people. One direction.

Alignment is not sameness

The instinct when you operate across borders is to standardise everything. It is the wrong instinct. Identical process imposed on unlike conditions produces compliance, not performance.

Difference is the asset

A team spread across cultures sees more of the market than any single office can. That range is the reason to build the team that way — but it only pays off if people are permitted to disagree in the open.

Hold the direction, release the method

What has to be shared is the objective, the standard, and the honesty. How a team in one market gets there rarely needs to match how a team in another does. My job is to make the destination unambiguous and the route local.

Selected work

Three things I built. One I'm still building.

Client names are held back deliberately. The substance isn't.

Ch. 01

An audience is not a business.

Strategy, site & storefront · Creator commerce

Challenge

A creator with more than half a million followers had enormous attention and nowhere of their own to put it. Every relationship lived inside someone else's platform, on someone else's terms, one ranking change away from disappearing.

What I built

A site that gave the brand a home off-platform, and a storefront built into the same world rather than bolted onto it — so buying felt like part of the thing people already followed, not an exit from it.

Impact

Attention turned into something the creator actually owns: a direct channel to an audience, and a revenue line that does not depend on an algorithm's mood.

Ch. 02

A campaign the size of a country.

Marketing strategy · National campaign, timed to the World Cup

Challenge

A national giveaway built around the World Cup. At that scale attention is not the scarce resource — the tournament supplies it. Clarity is. A message that is merely good gets lost inside the noise of the event it is riding.

What I built

Positioning worked back to a single claim, agreed internally before any media was committed, then a campaign architecture built outward from that claim rather than inward from the channels that happened to be available.

Impact

Work that ran nationally, against a fixed and unforgiving window. It taught me that scale rewards precision far more than it rewards volume.

Ch. 03

Borrowed scale, in five countries.

Marketing collateral & strategy consulting · Enterprise and international

Challenge

Producing work for multi-billion-dollar corporations — a multinational hardware manufacturer, a global consumer communications app — while separately advising a SaaS startup in Hong Kong. Organizations at opposite ends of the size scale, each convinced their constraints were unusual.

What I built

Marketing collateral inside enterprise constraints — brand systems I did not own and could not bend — and, for the startup, strategy where nothing was fixed yet and every decision was still reversible.

Impact

Five countries of context, and the thing that actually transfers between them: judgement. The playbooks never survive the border. The questions worth asking always do.

Ch. 04

The one that isn't finished.

Product & software · Education · In progress

Challenge

Students leave school able to pass an exam and unable to read a payslip, weigh a loan, or ask for something they are owed. The gap is not intelligence. Nobody ever taught them, and the one adult whose job it is to help is responsible for several hundred of them at once.

What I'm building

Software for public and private schools across the United States teaching financial literacy, life skills and self-advocacy — and an AI guidance counselor, so that a student with a question at nine at night is not simply out of luck until someone has a free period.

Impact

Unwritten. It is in build, and it is listed here unfinished on purpose: it is the clearest answer I have to what I intend to build next.

Purpose gives growth direction.

Growth without direction is just movement. I want to build organizations that know why they exist, who they serve, and what they are becoming.
